Chemical and Materials Engineers play an essential role in designing and preparing specifications for chemical process systems. Engineers are also responsible for constructing and operating commercial-scale chemical plants and supervising industrial processing and fabrication of products undergoing physical and chemical change. Another function of Chemical and Materials Engineers is to explore the characteristics of metals, ceramics, polymers, and other materials and evaluate and develop their technical and commercial applications.
Most occupations in this unit group have a skill level commensurate with a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).
